‘Perfect Strangers’, the acclaimed London-based singer-songwriter Tom Speight’s latest album, is deeply authentic and truly uncompromising. It marks the indie-folk mainstay’s fourth full-length record, showcasing him at his very best and championing the significance of human connection through music and beyond.
A gripping journey through ten tracks that evoke a full spectrum of emotions for listeners—from the elation of the lead single “Higher” to the heartfelt nostalgia of “Let Forever Be Today”—Speight reveals the vulnerable core that his fans have connected with from day one. The record features an extraordinary lineup of musicians, including PP Arnold, Lydia Clowes, Charlotte OC, and The Mayries, alongside members of renowned UK acts Feeder, Turin Brakes, Snow Patrol, and Embrace.
‘Perfect Strangers’ proudly displays its influences, as Speight explained: “With Perfect Strangers, I explore my love for folk, timeless songwriting, and the 1960s and ’70s sound, reimagined with a modern twist… Even though we may have started as strangers, I hope these songs resonate with you on a deeper level. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do with my music: create a soundtrack for someone’s day in a meaningful way.”
The journey of his new album began after watching the Netflix series One Day. Inspired, Speight started writing the album’s title track, “Perfect Strangers”, and shared a clip online. To his astonishment, David Nicholls, the author of One Day, reached out and encouraged him to complete it. From that inspiration, “Perfect Strangers” was born—a deeply romantic story where love defies myths and transforms into pure magic. “The song draws inspiration from the early works of Damien Rice and David Gray, combining intimacy with a powerful emotional resonance,” Speight says.
This experience prompted Speight to reflect more on the profound connections between people. In a world where we’ve never been more connected, we’re also facing unprecedented levels of loneliness. “I wanted to create an album that felt truly human—one that stood as a reaction to AI and the online world. I longed to return to the essence of music: playing live in a room with musicians, capturing those imperfect moments that, to me, define a great record.”
Tipped by publications such as The Times, The Telegraph, and The Independent, Tom Speight has been a prolific artist from the very beginning. With a string of EPs and three full-length albums to his name, he has gained strong radio support from BBC Radio 2, with ten consecutive playlisted records and over 300 million streams across digital platforms. He has also become a regular feature on mainstream television. Since 2016, Speight has achieved international recognition, performing in countries from the UK to Germany and Brazil, headlining shows and supporting major acts like Bastille, Snow Patrol, Jack Savoretti, Stereophonics, and more. His music has resonated with fans across the globe, with his heartfelt performances earning him praise.
Tom Speight’s previous album, 2023’s ‘Love & Light’, marked a milestone in his career, building on the success of his two standout albums (2019’s ‘Collide’ and ‘Everything’s Waiting for You’ in 2021), which have featured on both big and small screens, including hit shows like The Voice, Strictly Come Dancing, MasterChef, and To All the Boys, being the most played artist in 2021’s season of Love Island, as well as the music video for “The One” being showcased on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. Tom has also been a fixture on UK television, sharing his story and work on ITV News, BBC Breakfast, Sky News, and in the UK’s most respected publications.
Most recently, Tom Speight released Covers, an EP featuring four tracks originally by Outkast, Hollow Coves, Kodaline, and Fleetwood Mac—each reimagined by Speight, paying homage to the songs that have shaped him as an artist and music fan; a tribute to the diversity of music we all love.
