Originally issued as Relaxin’ With The Miles Davis Quintet (Prestige LP-7129), this landmark album captures Miles Davis’ first classic quintet at its creative peak. Formed in 1955, the group — featuring John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones — remains one of the most celebrated ensembles in jazz history.
Recorded in 1956 and released as part of a historic four-album series, Relaxin’ showcases the quintet’s effortless swing, lyrical interplay and refined sense of space. Highlights include Miles’ first recorded version of “If I Were A Bell,” a tune that would remain in his live repertoire for nearly a decade, alongside definitive readings of “Oleo” and “It Could Happen To You.”
This limited edition is pressed on 180-gram blue coloured vinyl and includes two bonus tracks, complemented by specially prepared liner notes by Brian Morton (The Penguin Guide To Jazz) and Paris’ Jazz Magazine.
