NOW Music proudly presents NOW That’s What I Call Soft Rock & Power Pop Anthems – Out May 29th! Bringing together 42 standout tracks from some of the most iconic names in music across a 3LP set pressed on soft blue vinyl, capturing powerful ballads, explosive pop productions, and unforgettable hooks – showcasing the very best of soft rock and power pop!
LP1 opens in triumphant style with Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’, before classic ballads from Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. Laura Branigan’s ‘Self Control’ has seen huge popularity again recently, while the side is completed by Marillion’s ‘Kayleigh’, Foreigner’s ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ and The Cars’ ‘Drive’- three of the ‘80’s biggest ballads…flip the LP over for one of Elton John’s signature songs, the brilliant ‘Tiny Dancer’ ahead of Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ – a massive #1 single and one of the defining hits of the genre, here alongside another chart-topper ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’ from Belinda Carlisle. Essential tracks follow from Rick Springfield, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar and Toto with the enduringly popular ‘Africa’.
LP2 with the epic ‘Alone’, ahead of power-pop from Cher with ‘I Found Someone’ and the anthemic ‘The Best’ from Tina Turner. The hits continue with Pretenders’ ‘Back On The Chain Gang’, Journey’s all-time classic ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, and more huge ‘80s essentials from Cutting Crew and Mr. Mister…while over on the other side… The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take’ – one of the biggest tracks of the ‘80s – opens before timeless soundtrack classic: Berlin’s #1‘Take My Breath Away’. Kim Carnes, Alannah Myles and Maria McKee follow along with Patty Smyth & Don Henley’s duet on the superb ‘Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough’ ahead of the second LP’s closer from the Scorpions with their global smash ‘Wind Of Change’.
LP3 opens with Bruce Springsteen’s unforgettable ‘Dancing In The Dark’, before Philip Bailey & Phil Collins’ #1 duet ‘Easy Lover’ and Huey Lewis & The News’ with ‘The Power Of Love’ back to back with another soundtrack classic Kenny Loggins’ ‘Danger Zone’ from ‘Top Gun’. Alice Cooper scored a huge hit with ‘Poison’ as did Richard Marx with the compelling ‘Hazard’, while Roxy Music complete the side with the sophisticated ‘Avalon’, the title track of their 1982 #1 album… it’s over to the final side and it’s an epic opening from Electric Light Orchestra with ‘Mr. Blue Sky’, followed by Gerry Rafferty’s timeless ‘Baker Street’. The whole side celebrates huge 1970’s power-pop – with Patti Smith Group’s ‘Because The Night’ and Thin Lizzy’s chart debut ‘Whiskey In The Jar’ up next ahead of Billy Joel’s signature ‘Piano Man’ showcasing timeless songwriting, and the truly classic ‘American Pie’ from Don McLean. Closing this superb collection is Meat Loaf with the magnificent ‘Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad’ – a suitably grand sign-off from a rock legend.
