Originally released in 2002, Like An Aspen Leaf is a breathtaking smoky folk opus spiked with Americana longing. Nuanced with the help of members of Elbow, Voice Of The Seven Woods and Andy Votel, it emanates from a baroque pop netherworld, soundtracked by songs of regret, pinpricked by evocative melodies and sumptuous harmonies, and peppered with plaintive swathes of cello and a suitably meandering piano that lurks behind Jane’s minor chords. Now remastered for the modern age, Like An Aspen Leaf is a bewitching seven-song set filled with aching melancholy.
